Colibri Lighter won't stay lit?

I've tried emptying it, refilling it, turning the flame up, and turning it down and it wont work. It's a firebird, idk if that makes a difference. I just bought it 2 days ago. the tank is full and it won't stay lit for more than a quarter of a second. Sometimes it will, and it will for about 3 lights, then it stops again. and whats more, because I couldn't really find the perfect screwdriver, the grips for the screwdriver around the edge of the filling thing are worn a good bit. what do i do to make it work consistently?
