Why do we continue to believe we have the right to force our social beliefs on others and make them conform?

I've felt the same way for a long time. Maybe it's just a way to divert attention from what's really wrong with our country. It's always easier to point a finger at someone else than it is to admit fault within ourselves. I wish there was a way to change it.
